I have known Cathy since 2003. At this point, that makes our friendship 22 years young; I say young because it's constantly being renewed. We mill around together a fair bit.

The one word that Cathy exemplifies is Grace. She lives it, speaks it, and applies it in everything she is and does. When we first met, she was the first in the congregation to welcome me and come and visit to make me feel comfortable. I have watched her encourage, comfort, gently steer, champion and bless others over the years.

She has selflessly and faithfully served in services, conferences and in other people's ministries, hosted dinners, missions fundraisers, creative groups, retreats, and leaders training events mainly to bless women.  Regardless of what has been going on in her own life – family issues, serious illness, tragedy, whatever – she thinks of how others feel over and above her own situation, knowing God has it all in hand. This makes her a wonderful Ambassador for Christ, no matter what she does or with whom.

Cathy leads the way. She's quietly spoken but packs a soft-gloved, hefty punch. The punch is not aimed at the listeners but at the lies that have crept in and distorted the way we live. She helps people demolish strongholds. Her compassion and clarity make them fly out the window, leaving listeners and readers full of hope despite crushing circumstances.  Her personal story is one of grief and tragic loss, despite which her huge heart, full of God's assurance, shines through.

Whether she's leading worship, events or meetings, speaking, painting her Holy-Spirit inspired images, writing or just being a treasured friend, Cathy brings the love of God, nurture and encouragement, an assurance that there's always more in God and a hope that we all, together, can make a difference by our lives to transform our culture.

I highly recommend her as an artist, speaker, event manager and person to get to know. Engaging her will bring you a huge blessing.

Stephen and I have known Cathy and her family, as their pastors since we first came to Hills Church in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne back in 2005. Since then, we have forged not only a great ministry partnership, but also a deep friendship. Having grown up in Africa myself, I have loved this connection that Cathy and I both share. From the outset, Cathy’s ability to bring her African background to life is captivating, but there is so much more to this story than the many countries she has called ‘home’. This story will take you on a journey through constant change, grief, loss, struggle, disappointment and tragedy, and yet, more than the tears of a broken hearted daughter, and the prayers of a godly mother, is the faithfulness of an unseen but very present Heavenly Father who intricately writes His own story over the details of this disillusioned and broken hearted young woman, drawing her to faith in Him and inviting her to experience his grace and power to make something beautiful out of her story. The reader is left with an overwhelming sense that the same invitation is available to all of us.

We all carry the burden of past mistakes, but not many have the courage to share their story. Cathy has shared her journey of transformation through pain, tragedy and triumph. Hearing her story will make it easier for each of us to share our story. My interpretation of a Eugene Peterson quote is that Christianity is simply one beggar showing another beggar where to find bread, and Cathy is pointing us in the direction of the bread.

The Rhode to Zimkesalia is a story of God’s faithfulness. Cathy writes with a vulnerability about her life, she shares not only the mountain top experiences but the deep valleys that she has walked through. I encourage you as you read Cathy’s story to have an open heart to the healing power that is available to each one of us when we walk in relationship with God.
